上古史或中古史都應該不會有太大爭議，除了「岳飛抗契丹

近現代史顯然是爭議最大的一段時期，基本上由抗日戰爭到文革都是由黨說了算的：如《關於建國以來黨的若干歷史問題的決議》等等。更不要說國共內戰時期的歷史，基本上兩岸的表述完全不同。
當年董建華政府取消中史科必修，練乙錚有這樣的評論：
